Make people listen to you!
Make people listen to you!
When you practice this, people will lean toward you
Keep their eyes and ears open
Paying attention to every word you say
And for reading this, I also have a Pro-tip:
Excited?
Let’s dive in.
During the conversation, people pay attention to it only if it brings them benefit or solves/eases their pain or a cheap gossip that brings them pleasure. If not, their minds are wandering about their burning issue.
So, to make people really pay attention to what you say there are few tricks that you can start doing immediately.
Presence
First off, you need to have presence. When you’re speaking, you have to be in the place mentally and physically in the moment with every cell of your being. If your energy is scattered, then the attention you get is also scattered. How to bring this level of attention?
Take a long deep breath and put your attention on your toes. From there gradually bring your attention all the way to the center point in between your eye brows.
You will feel something. A natural sensation. NOW YOU ARE IN THE MOMENT.
And that’s how you bring the presence.
2. Don’t blather
Once you have done that, now its time to take control over your words.
Some people just talk and talk in a long-winded fashion without making much sense. Go round and round and round and round and not really getting anywhere. From the minute they start and keep going on and on and on. The time is so much filled with words without making a point. You keep listening so long and you realize these are just empty words.
Just the way I did right now… You see that?
Keep it crisp short and concise
The less you talk — the more they listen/hear. Use fewer words
3. Lean back
When you talk, lean back. But don’t overdo it. At a decent distance. This shows the power of authority and you have nothing to lose. Humans have the capability to pick this up. So what happens?
They lean forward to listen to you. It’s the FOMO (Fear of missing out) When you d this, keep your toes pointed straight at them. And quite often keep bringing attention to your toes.
It’s like a totem to bring back your awareness.
4. Pace
During the conversation, never keep a constant pace Its lifeless and there are no emotions to it. Keep it swinging.
Speaking fast signals authority. Speaking slowly (pace and not volume) makes them think about what you’re saying.
Keep it up and down but don’t over-fluctuate as it will sound deliberate. A natural rhythm would do the job.
Most importantly, when you have strong point, something really important to say, construct your sentence in such a way that the most important words come to the end of your sentence.
And when you come to those last few crucial words, hold. And pause.
This peaks the curiosity and wanting to know what that word is.
Then say it. Slow and steady.
5. Tonality
The tone that you speak is also like the pace. Don’t keep it the same. Raise it and bring down through the sentence. When you want to express the most important segment that you want them to listen closer, follow the same that you did in pace.
Lower your volume in those last few important words.
6. Pro-Tip — Eye contact
Most people don’t look in the eye. When talking or when listening. You will know if they are paying full attention to you when you look deep into the pupils. See if the pupil dilates.
Meaning the center point of the eyes (pupil) is growing larger, they are reacting to what you’re saying. That’s called dilation.
Don’t stare like you want to have sex with them or murder them.
Keep it subtle. Keep it smooth. Move smoothly and move naturally. That’s sexier.
4–5 Seconds of contact and look away naturally. Bring back the awareness, start again and look away. Rinse and repeat.
Conclusion:
Use it wisely.
